Artist Interview: Arnej

April 14, 2009

Arnej’s productions have been regularly playlisted in the A State Of Trance episodes. ‘They Always Come Back’, ‘The One’s That Get Away’, ‘Strangers We’ve Become’, his remix of Armin’s ‘What If’ and numerous other of his soundwaves have been praised by the ASOT listeners and welcomed him to the trance scene, skyrocketing him to the top within only a few years. This Canadian DJ/Producer was invited to play at both Club Butan and Club Air, to showcase the Arnej sound and celebrate this very special, 400th episode alongside you clubbers.  We did a quick check-up on Arnej to see if he is as excited as we are.

ArnejYou’re playing at ASOT 400 in Germany and the UK. How does it feel to be part of such a big event?

Arnej: “It’s quite an honour for me personally, it’s not something I expected to happen. If you were to tell me that I’d be playing at such an amazing event a year ago, I would have smacked you in the face! Ok not really, but I would have definitely called you loco. :) “

What can the crowd expect of your sets?

Arnej: “The crowd can expect a ‘journey’. I know that word is thrown around a lot and mostly forgotten these days in music, but that is my aim with my music and my sets, to set you on a journey. The listeners of ASOT will definitely be in for a treat as my set will be quite ‘special’. I won’t say how, but tune in and you’ll find out!”

What is ‘a state of trance’ to you?

Arnej: “I touched up on this a little bit earlier above. To me a state of trance is the feeling you get when the music takes on you on an emotional rollercoaster. A lot of people who aren’t familiar with the genre cannot relate to this feeling, but true trance addicts know exactly what I’m talking about!”

Any other special news we should know about?

Arnej: “I’d just like to let people know that my next single ‘Dust In The Wind’ is coming out, April 13th on the Coldharbour label. The Arnej album is also heavily in production, so keep an eye out … or ear? for that one! :) “

Is there anything you’d like to say to Armin?

Arnej: “Armin, my name is not pronounced Ar-nai, it’s Ar-nay, what happened man?
You pronounced it right a few times then completely fell off the boat. That’s it, no promos for you! :) I am kidding of course, I’d just like to extend my congratulations and utmost thanks for all the support. Let’s cross our fingers for 400 more!”
