Artist Spotlight: BLR

Remixing a 25-year-old record comes with a built-in audience who have an emotional connection to the original. Does that feel like pressure or creative freedom?

I initially just made the remix for my own sets – i remember hearing the original on a trance compilation back in the day and that glide/porta lead sounded so fresh, raw and different it always stuck with me, so I brought it to my own sets – so it didnt really give any pressure really as I have produced it towards how I wanted the update to sound, the original is the original and I’ll always love that.

Is there anything about this remix that surprised you? Something that came out differently than you expected?

Not really apart from that this particular one gave a big reaction from the crowds from the get go, it’s when I decided to send it to Armada too for release!

What’s next for BLR after this?

I have a lot of new music lined up, from melodic deeper stuff to raw tech infused bangers, and right now prepping a string of more clubby tracks for upcoming club shows here in the Netherlands, as well as prepping for ADE!
