Artist Spotlight: Farius
Did London’s club culture influence you more as a raver first or as a producer?
Definitely as a raver first. London’s club culture shaped how I began to understand dance music before I ever tried to make it. Being out on dancefloors week after week and experiencing the city’s wide variety of dance music taught me what really connects with people on the dancefloor. That diversity still influences how I approach production today.
Your recent music feels confident and emotionally mature. Do you feel more comfortable trusting your instincts in the studio now than you did a few years ago?
Yeah, 100%. I trust my instincts much more now. A few years ago, I’d overthink things or chase what I thought I should sound like – which I think is common for a lot of producers trying to find their voice or sound in the vast ocean of dance music. These days, I’m more comfortable leaning into an idea and letting tracks develop naturally instead of forcing them into a formula.
As your catalogue grows, how do you see your sound evolving over time?
I see my sound becoming more refined but also more expressive – I think Elements is a good example of this. For instance, a few years ago, I never would have had the courage to create a drop like the one in Elements that hits this hard or tough. It’s really through playing bigger shows like ASOT in Rotterdam that I’ve become more bold in the studio, so I hope this continues. Ultimately, the core feeling of my sound will always be melodic and emotional, but I want to keep exploring deeper textures and more personal storytelling in the music as my experiences grow and change.
