Artist Spotlight: R3SPAWN
‘Skyfire’ is a beloved trance anthem originally released in 2011. What inspired you to take on the challenge of remixing such an iconic track?
Funny enough, I first discovered this record ages ago when I was very much into lifting and came across ‘Zyzz’, a YouTube fitness sensation who sadly passed away. This is also what I think gave the record a massive popularity boost back then as Zyzz was quite the internet sensation back then. Anyways, long story short— I fell in love with this record, mainly for its amazing atmosphere that Shogun pulled off in this record. The feeling that’s poured into this record is simply amazing and I felt lucky to have been able to make a remix for it!
As your sound often bridges multiple genres, how would you personally describe the R3SPAWN signature style?
You’re right to say that I indeed am a broad producer with a broad sound. I kind of decided to go this route ever since I felt stuck at some point and “boxed in”, so to speak. I felt constrained by the thought of only making 1 specific genre because of fans not “latching on” otherwise. I then decided to completely swipe this whole idea off the table and have never felt more happy to produce music. That said though, I think my style always comes down to three main things: energy, atmosphere and power. I try to always incorporate (sometimes better than other times) feeling, with a nice powerful drop. I think that’s exactly what I pulled off for this record too and I’m so glad to say that it’s finally out!
What are your long-term goals as a producer and performer? Any dream collaborations or major milestones you’re aiming for?
The funny thing is that dreams and goals always stretch and new goals and dreams are created. For example, I would have never thought to have worked with Gabry Ponte (former member of Eiffel 65, best known from their hit ‘Blue’), who still is a massive legend to me. I feel so lucky to have worked with him (and even have new songs in the pipeline with him) as I grew up with his music and had ‘Blue’ on repeat! I’ve already worked with countless industry legends such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Timmy Trumpet and Gabry Ponte, and did official remixes for Dada Life etc.
